Home Birth Midwife in PHILADELPHIA

Philadelphia is a city of strong communities, rich history, and families who value independence and connection. For generations, parents here have sought maternity care that honors their choices and respects their homes.

I grew up loving this city — went to school here, lived here, played here, and like most of us, I cherish it deeply. That connection continues to shape how I serve families today.

More and more Philadelphia families are choosing to welcome their babies at home.

Cardinal Birth Midwifery serves families throughout Philadelphia, the Main Line, and surrounding areas. We provide experienced home birth midwifery care, comprehensive prenatal and postpartum support, and guidance that respects your family’s goals and decisions.

Your birth. Your choices. Your home.

About Abigail Iovine

I'm Abby. I founded Cardinal Birth in 2013 after five years of apprenticeship under local midwifery elders.

I'm a mother of ten. Four hospital births. Six at home — three with a midwife, three unassisted. I am not theorizing about what birth can look like when it's left alone. I know.

I've attended births across this region for over a decade. I bring emergency preparedness, deep experience, and the kind of calm that only comes from having seen a lot of births — including my own.

You are the lead in your care. My job is to make sure you stay that way.

WHY PHILADELPHIA FAMILIES CHOOSE HOME BIRTH

Philadelphia offers a unique mix of energy, historic neighborhoods, and close-knit communities. Many families choose to raise their children here because they value independence, culture, and the comfort of familiar surroundings.

Many of those same families choose home birth.

A home birth with Cardinal Birth Midwifery means welcoming your baby in the comfort of your own home, surrounded by the people you trust. No unfamiliar hospital environment. No unnecessary interruptions. Just experienced, personalized midwifery care centered on your family’s goals.

For families throughout Philadelphia, home birth offers a calm, familiar setting where labor can unfold naturally, with continuity of care from pregnancy through the postpartum period.

On Legal Status in Pennsylvania

Cardinal Birth is a traditional midwifery practice. Not state-licensed. Our work is rooted in faith, education, and tradition.

Pennsylvania's legal landscape for traditional midwives is complicated and, frankly, contradictory. I write about it openly on my Substack. We discuss it openly with every family we serve.

Every family has the right to choose who attends their birth. We stand behind that completely.
