I'm Abby Iovine, the midwife behind Cardinal Birth. Mother of ten. Born-again Christian. Traditional midwife. I trained for five years under local midwifery elders, and I've been attending births professionally since 2013. I've given birth in the hospital and at home, so I know what both feel like from the inside.

Cardinal Birth is a traditional home birth practice. That means we come to you. Prenatal visits happen in your living room, on your schedule. When labor starts, we come to your home and stay through the birth and the hours after. Then we come back for postpartum and newborn visits. Water birth, traditional placenta preparation, and birth certificate and Social Security card filing are all part of the care. Your kids are welcome at every visit and at the birth.

You stay in charge. Informed consent and informed refusal are respected here. We give you real information, and you make the decisions for your body and your baby. Every family also gets a plan: during intake we identify the nearest appropriate hospital to your home and walk you through exactly how a transfer would work.

Where we serve

We serve families from Stroudsburg and East Stroudsburg across Monroe County and the Poconos, and out to the Lehigh Valley, Scranton and Wilkes-Barre, and Carbon and Schuylkill Counties. In Southeast PA, we serve Philadelphia, Chestnut Hill, the Main Line, and Bucks, Montgomery, Delaware, Chester and Berks Counties. Long driveways, city rowhomes, farmhouses: we plan for each one.

Pennsylvania does not license traditional midwives. Cardinal Birth is not state-licensed, and we tell every family that up front.
