Safe Passages Map

Some agencies are on the sheet but not on the map until a street and ZIP are confirmed.

This map is for deciding where to go if a birth needs a hospital. It covers Pennsylvania hospitals, blood banks, and EMS agencies.

Purple means the hospital has an obstetrics unit and a NICU. Light pink means an obstetrics unit and no known NICU. Blue means no obstetrics unit. The dark pins are blood banks. Orange is EMS: the light shade is first responders who are not an ambulance, the medium shade is an EMT ambulance, and the dark shade is a paramedic ambulance.

Maternity units have been closing, and the drive can be a long one. The map shows how close the nearest hospital and EMS station are. It does not show who has blood on site. Blood changes, and it is not on this map until someone has called and written it down. A pin also does not say whether an obstetrician or an anesthesiologist is in the building. The color only means the unit exists. Call and ask.

The miles on a hospital pin are straight-line miles to the nearest blood bank, not driving time.
